Home for the Holidays Book Review

18754915 Book: Home for the Holidays (#4 in the Asphalt Warrior series)

Author: Gary Reilly

Given by:JKS Communications

Rating: 3/5 Won-derfuls (I liked it)

This series is about a cab driver named Murphy or "Murph". He tries to make just enough money to survive and wants to stay out of the lives of his customers. unfortunately for Murph's goals, he is good at his job and a very decent human being. This means he makes a bit more than he wants and he tends to be helpful despite his best intentions of detachment.

Although this is number four in the series, this was the first Reilly book I have read. I think I need to read some of the other books to get to know Murph a bit better. From my understanding, he is usually primarily in the role of cabbie in Denver. In this book, however, he is only in his car at the beginning and is then off to spend some time with family. He makes some great attempts at keeping those he cares about from being too productive. It's fabulous! In this installment, he also saves the day for a few people. This lands him in some awkward (for him) and funny (for us) predicaments. Based on what I got to know about this character from one book, I would say that we could all use a little Murph in our lives. He is a protagonist that is easy to relate to and very entertaining.

I think my rating will go up when I read some of the other books where he is primarily a cabbie instead of a sojourner. This was a good holiday read, but I have a feeling I will like some of the more typical books in the series better. I plan to read Reilly's "Doctor Lovebeads" next and am pretty excited about it.
